When Closeness Feels Like Something Is Being Asked of You
Some bodies learned to treat another person's presence as a request. A quiet road at dusk, where the old direction fades before the next one fully appears. The other person is not asking for anything. They are sitting on the couch, reading. They have said nothing for twenty minutes. There is no visible agenda in the room, no expectation in their face, no tone that suggests something needs to be done. And still, somewhere below conscious decision, the body begins to prepare. A
